State program to help downtowns in Menomonee Falls, Hartland, other communities

A new state program will help 20 Wisconsin communities, including some in the Milwaukee area, with improving their downtowns and other urban commercial districts.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.'s Connect Communities program will provide services that include a networking group for new ideas, on-site visits from WEDC managers, and training programs, it was announced Tuesday.

The Connect Communities program is a complementary program to WEDC’s Wisconsin Main Street Program, a downtown revitalization program targeting the historic and economic redevelopment of traditional downtown business districts

The communities selected for the new program are Antigo, Berlin, Cambridge, Cashton, Chilton, Crandon, Deerfield, Edgerton, Greenwood, Hartford, Hartland, La Crosse, Menasha, Menomonee Falls, Menomonie, Mosinee, Plymouth, Pulaski, Sheboygan and Superior.

The communities selected to participate in the program each needed to have an organization that focuses on downtown and other urban commercial district issues, as well as information technology capability and a commitment to training opportunities.
