School officials from the Hamilton School District said that Maple Ave. Elementary will be closing at 10 a.m. today due to a water main break in the Village of Sussex.
Hamilton Spokeswoman Denise Lindberg said the school has contacted parents. Children who have not yet arrived at the school will not be expected to show up.
"We can't have school in session without a water supply," Lindberg said. "We don't have a choice, it's state law."
The busted water main also shutoff water next door at the Peace Lutheran Academy, a K-8th grade parish school that serves about 20 students.
A spokeswoman for that school said that classes would continue as usual and she expected it would not have an impact on food services.
Melissa Weiss, director of public works for the Village of Sussex, could not be immediately reached for comment.
