Pabst Farms won't strike up a deal with Walmart, yet

Jan. 28, 2014

City of Oconomowoc - Mayor Jim Daley Tuesday announced changes to the Pabst Farms Town Centre plan that include allowing for larger-scale retailers, but holding off on Walmart, for now.

According to the information submitted by the city, Pabst Farms has agreed to not enter into an agreement with Walmart for one year and pursue other retail tenants for the Town Center.

If three years pass, Walmart could come back into the picture, but Pabst has agreed to allow the city's Common Council to determine whether or not the big box retailer is wanted in the area. Pabst agreed to not pursue legal retribution if the Council votes against a Walmart.

"Pabst Farms has shown a recognition that a portion of Oconomowoc has been vocal in their concern over the direction the development has taken. Pabst Farms has indicated they need the requested changes to their approved Town Centre plan in order to market their property to a wider range of end-users," Daley said.

Those changes include additional acreage for the Town Center, increased square footage for retail anchors, and removal of a monument wall between the development and I-94 which would replaced by landscaping and storm water components.

The Common Council is set to consider the negotiated agreement. Watch for more on this story in Thursday's Oconomowoc Focus.
