Mukwonago Chamber warns of local scam

The Mukwonago Area Chamber of Commerce sent out a message to members regarding a "scam" call it received and followed-up on.

The chamber received a call from a phone number with a 414 area code identifying themselves as the "disconnection center" stating their electrical service was to be disconnected unless a payment was made with a bank account or credit card number and the caller was persistent about asking for additional information.

Chamber Director April Reszka said she instead called WE energies and documented the situation where the customer service representative confirmed this was a scam.

Those calling from WE Energies will always identify themselves and the call-back number would be a "800" or "866 number. The chamber also said they contacted local police and wanted to alert local businesses to help protect them from this situation.
