The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports that a section of the Glacial Drumlin State Trail will be closed from Monday, June 30 through Thursday, July 3 from Main Street in Wales going west half a mile to Mickle Road in Waukesha County.
The trail will be closed to allow contractors to conduct overhead bridge demolition and girder placement on Highway 83. During the trail closure, no through traffic will be allowed. The DNR has created an alternate travel route for trail users, which will be marked with signs indicating the route. Trail closure signs and barricades will be posted in advance and during the closure dates.
The alternate trail route follows what is currently the Highway 83 traffic lane, but it will be closed to vehicle traffic after the new traffic lane is opened. The old traffic lane will be for trail detour use only. The DNR reminds riders and hikers to use extreme caution at all intersections, obey all traffic signs and look for oncoming vehicles before crossing the new lane of traffic.
