Family of East Troy man injured in motorcylce crash ask witness to come forward

Joe Legas

East Troy resident Joe Legas remains in critical condition after a motorcycle accident Oct. 13 when his Harley flipped around 6:30 a.m. on I-43 near Moorland Road in New Berlin. Legas’ family is asking the woman who may have witnessed the accident to come forward.

Legas, a lifetime resident of East Troy, was on his way to work  when his bike flipped.  Because Legas isn’t conscious, his family has no idea what events may have occurred leading up to the accident.

"We hope to have a better understanding of what the future holds for us in the next week or so," said the family in a statement. "We would … like to encourage the woman who stopped at the scene to please come forward so we can better understand what happened that morning. Joe is a loving husband, father of three children, son, brother, friend to many, etc. and we ask you to please put yourself in our shoes and consider how you would feel if this terrible accident happened to one of your family members. We would never wish this upon anyone and are praying you have the strength to come forward."

A bank account for donations has been set up at Citizens Bank in East Troy. Beginning Monday, donations can be sent to Citizens Bank, Joseph A. Legas III Benefit Fund, c/o Brooke McPhail, 2905 Main Street, East Troy, WI 53120. Anyone interested in sending raffle items to be used at the benefit can send them to the Joseph A.
