Swine Flu reported at Lake Country School

A Jan. 27 letter from Lake Country School in the Village of Hartland told parents that the school has one case of H1N1, commonly known as Swine Flu.

The letter, from Superintendent Mark Lichte, said the school was taking extra precautions to ensure that the disease did not spread.

The school said computers would be cleaned after each use and bathrooms would be cleaned at noon each day. Teachers were also asking their students to clean their desks throughout the day on Friday.

"We will be encouraging all children to be vigilant with this during the day," the letter read. "We will follow protocols in the health room that we have in the past including the use of facemasks."

H1N1 causes normal flu-like symptoms like fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Others have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

The letter urged parents to reinforce the importance of hand-washing to their children.
