Former Town of Merton woman accused in drug death

A former Town of Merton woman was charged Tuesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court for supplying heroin to a Waukesha man who died from an overdose of the drug last year.

Natasha A. Hedstrom, 25, of Madison, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court with a felony count of first-degree reckless homicide for the death of Shawn R. Ropel, 30, on Nov. 29, 2011. Hedstrom was also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the criminal complaint, Hedstrom told police she purchased heroin on Nov. 28 for Ropel and after injecting the drug in Milwaukee, returned to Ropel’s Waukesha residence where she believed Ropel again injected the drug. At about 2:35 a.m. Hedstrom called 911 after noticing Ropel’s face had turned blue and CPR attempts to revive him failed.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Hedstrom.
