Eagleville Charter contract on table next week

Mukwonago Area School Board, Mukwonago Area School District

Discussion was heated at times as the topic of the Eagleville Charter School drew fire at tonight's Mukwonago Area School Board meeting. While the School Board agreed in December on a five-year contract with stipulations for the charter school, some Board members would like to reexamine options in light of the failed referendum.

However, the MASD board does have a contract with the charter school. According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, both parties would need to get together and agree on any changes to the contract in order for anything to change with the charter agreement.

Eagleville is perilously close to reaching the 75 student enrollment minimum required by May 1 to ensure the school will reopen for the 2012-13 school year. With one week remaining, the current enrollment stands at 73 students with one student yet to reply regarding his or her intent for next year. There are 11 potential open enrollment students, who, if they would agree to attend Eagleville, could push the number above the minimum required by the contract.

The MASD School Board will meet with the Eagleville Elementary Charter governance committee prior to the April 30 school board meeting, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., to discuss the charter contract. The charter will be on next week's agenda as an action item.
