Get out into the autumn's beauty for the Kettle Moraine Studio Tour

The countryside is ablaze with natural beauty. So why not complement nature’s talents with those of area artists this weekend?

This weekend, the Kettle Moraine Studio Tour will be celebrating its 14th year with its largest tour ever. Visitors will be able to see eight art studios at six locations and see the work of 19 award-winning painters, sculptors, photographers and musicians, all within a 20-mile radius.

The tour is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.

Five new guest artists will join the 14 returning artists.

The art studio of Layna Portugal will be featured for the first time. Her studio, outside of Eagle, will feature earth-inspired simplicity in her clay pieces. Other artists at her studio are new to the tour --  Judy Dishman and Yuki Nyhan, both specializing in earthenware.

All five of the original founding artists and their studios will be open for the 2012 tour. Wood sculptor Tom Rauschke and metal sculptor Kaaren Wiken will share their Xn-trix Studios outside Palmyra. Also at Xn-trix will be ceramic artists Jef Raasch and Susan Hanna and watercolor paintings by James Smith.

The Composite Clay Studio will explore the ceramics workshops of Jeff Noska and Barbara Reinhart. Nature photographer William Lemke will open his studio and be joined by ceramicists Tim Marcotte and Alex Mandli .

The Bob Hohf Piano Workshop will once again be open for visitors to hear the instrument and learn about its working parts. Elizabeth Beunaiche will present a brilliant display of her carved gemstones. Thomas Buchs will show his latest plein-air paintings and Dwayne Sperber will showcase his latest works in repurposed trees.

Mary Nimi’s sculpture studio will again be part of the tour as well as guest artist Sherida Wank and her gems and jewelry art.
