More than 50 accidents on icy roads

Isolated icy patches on Waukesha County streets and highways contributed to 56 accidents, an unusually high number, this morning, according to Waukesha County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Jennifer Wallschlager.

Wallschlager said the slick spots were the result of morning traffic creating precipitation on streets that was quickly turned to ice by sub zero temperatures. The slick spots were unnoticed by unsuspecting motorists who were traveling too fast for conditions, she said.

There were 14 personal injury accidents and 22 roll over incidents along with 20 accidents where there was property damage only, according to Wallschlager.

One of the accidents occured west of the Highway 16 and Jungbluth Road interchange where a similar accident occured at nearly the same location at approximately the same time on Tuesday morning.

Two people were injured in that accident. One of the motorists told sheriff's deputies that he was  blinded by the sun and did not see the vehicle in front begin to slow down. The names of the accident victims and their conditions are not available.

Wallschlager said she has not received the report on this morning's accidents near the same location.
