The Secret Garden opens tonight at Kettle Moraine High School

Kettle Moraine School District, Kettle Moraine High School, KM Perform

Two missed rehearsal days due to cold weather this week caused a scramble for Kettle Moraine School for Arts and Performance (KM Perform) as students prepare for their second annual musical, a Broadway adaptation of Francis Hodgson Burnett’s literary classic “The Secret Garden.” Performances are at 7 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Kettle Moraine High School auditorium.

The story follows 11-year-old Mary Lennox, orphaned in India, as she returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive Uncle Archibald and his invalid son, Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a garden of the show’s title, the friendship of local Yorkshire youth Martha and Dickon, and the guidance of “Dreamers,” spirits from Mary’s past, who lead her to a new life and dramatize the Secret Garden’s compelling tale.

The show is appropriate for all ages and not exclusively for children, although it is based on a novel written for children. Tickets are $8 at the door for students and seniors, $10 for adults. More information is available online.
