Hazardous driving conditions on freeway system

Wisconsin Department of Transportation

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) is advising motorists to reduce speeds as blowing and drifting snow, combined with high winds, are creating hazardous driving conditions on the freeway system.

The Wisconsin State Patrol reports many motorists are driving too fast; on I-94 in Racine County alone, average speeds are well above what is reasonable and prudent for the conditions. Since 7 a.m., there have been multiple rollover incidents reported along most of the major corridors in Southeast Wisconsin, the DOT reports.

If people are in an accident, the DOT reminds motorists to stay in their vehicle, if appropriate, and alert law enforcement of the incident.

Drivers can check road conditions by calling 5-1-1 or on 511wi.gov.
