CROP Walk planned for Oconomowoc

The 33rd annual Oconomowoc Area Crop Walk is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 11.  This is an opportunity for area residents to join others in over 2000 communities throughout the U.S. to  walk together to take a stand against poverty and hunger in our communities and our world.

The Oconomowoc Area Walk will begin at the Fowler Park Shelter, and the walk route will be the community walking route around Fowler Lake.  Registration for the event will begin at 1 p.m. at the shelter, and the walk itself will begin at 1:30 p.m.  The walk is open to all Oconomowoc area residents who would like to join in  helping to fight poverty and hunger.  Donations of non-perishable food items for the local food pantries as well as cash donations are welcome but not required.

The acronym CROP stands for “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.”  The purpose of CROP is to raise funds and awareness for local, national, and international relief and economic development as well as providing funds for local food pantries and other hunger-fighting initiatives.

The CROP Walk is sponsored by area churches and has been organized by Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc.  Any community groups, businesses, or individuals interested in participating in the walk should contact Jody Neary at (262) 567-8240 for more information on the walk.
