Joers first, AHS fifth, KM sixth

The Classic 8 Conference was well represented Monday and Tuesday at the WIAA Division 1 state high school girls golf tournament at University Ridge in Madison.

Waukesha freshman Emily Joers fired a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday and rallied to win the individual state title. She's the first Waukesha County individual girls champion. Joers had 79 on Monday for a 150 total. She won by two shots.

Arrowhead and Kettle Moraine, expected to battle for the team championship, settled for fifth and sixth place respectively. Middleton won the title with a 683 total, one shot better than Oregon. AHS had 710 and KM 715.

Erika Pfaender led AHS with a 163, total, good for 12th place. Her scores were 82-81. Other Arrowhead scores were Sarah Nordeen with 166 (81-85), Natalie Feder at 176 (95-81), Bethany Gustin 206 (99-107), Peyton Gunnison 99 and Jamie Kujawski 106.

KM was led by April Ohlendorf with a 160 score, good for a tie for eighth place. Her rounds were 83-77. Other Kettle Moraine scores were Leighann Cabush at 177 (90-87), Anna Vollbrecht at 189 (95-94), Katie McCann 196 (100-96) and Ally Amadon 200 (93-107).
