Mukwonago Area School District Nurse Amy Durkin reported absenteeism has begun to level off in the district. While absentee figures rose Tuesday and Wednesday at Park View Middle School and Mukwonago High School, Rolling Hills and Section Elementary School peaked on Tuesday and noted a decrease in the number of students absent on Wednesday. Clarendon Avenue Elementary and Prairie View Elementary also saw slight decreases on Oct. 21.
Durkin said absentee figures in Mukwonago are significantly lower than in many other schools that are closing because of illness. The district continues to report figures to the Waukesha County Health Department. Durkin said the district would probably remain open even if absentee figures climbed again as long as there is enough staff available.
All activities at MHS will be held as scheduled on Oct. 21, contrary to what has been texted via WTMJ messages, according to the district website. Only the Mukwonago Gymnastics Kids Club class has been canceled on Oct. 21.
