VILLAGE OF SUMMIT - A fire has destroyed a single-family home at 34047 Venice Park Road.

The main residence of a Venice Park Road property in the village of Summit is a total loss and its detached garage was severely damaged by a fire on Feb. 22, according to the Western Lake Fire District.

The home's resident went to a neighbor's house at about 4:26 a.m. to report the house was on fire. The resident was able to get out safely, along with two dogs.

When police officers arrived at 4:31 a.m., they found the home fully engulfed, with heavy flames showing, according to the Western Lakes Fire Department.

Firefighters were on scene at 4:39, and attempted to knock down the fire but were unable to do so and called in help from surrounding departments. Firefighters responded from Lake Country, Okauchee, Stone Bank, Wales-Genesee, town of Delafield, Ixonia, and the Western Waukesha RIC team.

Resources from Watertown, Hartland, Mukwonago and Big Bend staffed Western Lakes stations for other incidents during the fire.

Firefighters hauled in six trucks' worth of water from a mile away, as there are no fire hydrants on Venice Park Road.

Red Cross

The Red Cross responded to assist three residents: one person who lived in the home that burned down, and two others who live in a cottage on the same property that has a connected water line, which was destroyed by the fire.

Red Cross Regional CEO Patty Flowers said that all three residents have insurance and somewhere to stay, so they did not need Red Cross assistance.

The property is owned by Bryan and Mary Fisher of Waukesha, and is assessed at nearly $220,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
