When the Trump extended family gathered at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, it was incoming first daughter Ivanka Trump — in striking kelly green — who stood out, even more than her stepmother, incoming first lady Melania Trump.

During a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns, Ivanka popped with color in a green dress with a matching coat by Oscar de la Renta, featuring super-sized ruffled lapels and a tulip-shaped hem. Ivanka was wearing the outfit when she arrived from New York aboard a military jet with the rest of her family Thursday morning at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, D.C. in suburban Maryland.

As the children, spouses and grandchildren of the president-elect and Vice President-elect Mike Pence gathered, Melania blended in with the family's mostly black attire, in a Norisol Ferrarimilitary-style knee-length coat and matching fitted dress in black, according toWWD and an email from the Trump transition team. Ferrari's website describes her as an American designer based in New York.

(Trump himself stood out, too, in an electric blue tie that dropped well below his belt, as he laid a wreath with Pence.)

The color green, according to color psychology, is the color associated with such things as new life, nature, growth, energy and renewal. It's also the color of money, finances, banking, ambition, jealousy and Wall Street.

It was an early sign, if not intended, that Ivanka is going to be more in the spotlight than Melania as Donald Trump's administration gets underway on Friday.

Will Ivanka Trump be the most influential first daughter in decades?

After the inaugural celebrations are over early Saturday morning, Melania is expected to head back to New York and Trump Tower, where she and her 10-year-old son, Trump's youngest child Barron, will remain for at least the first six months until Barron finishes up the school year.

Ivanka and her husband, New York real-estate tycoon Jared Kushner, who is taking a job as a senior counselor to his father-in-law, will settle in to their pricey new home in Washington's pricey Kalorama neighborhood with their three children, Arabella, 4, Joseph, 2, and Theodore, who turns 1 in March.

After the wreath-laying the Trumps headed over to the Lincoln Memorial for a two-hour pre-inaugural welcome concert where Toby Keith, Sam Moore, and Lee Greenwood were among the scheduled performers.

Earlier, Trump and his wife, appeared at a luncheon in a ballroom at his own hotel in Washington, where he met with GOP congressional leaders. At the luncheon, Trump invited Melania to speak; she told the crowd, "Tomorrow we're starting the work," adding that "there's a lot of possibility and a lot to take care of."

Later Thursday, at a dinner for GOP donors at Union Station, Melania donned a slinky gold column gown by Reem Acra, while Ivanka wore a de la Renta white-and-black capped-sleeve column gown featuring a super-size bow and a white train in the back.
