Kid's eat free

Sussex Outreach Services (SOS), Hunger Task Force and Milwaukee Center of Independence are offering a free Summer Lunch Program from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday to children 18 and younger at Sussex Village Park, N63 W24459 Main St.

The hot meal will be served and eaten at the Lions Pavilion. This program runs through Aug. 25. No meals will be served Monday and Tuesday, July 3-4.

July Fourth events

Sussex will hold its July Fourth Kiddie Parade Tuesday, July 4, with participants lining up in the Civic Center parking lot, N64 W23760 Main St. at 9:15 a.m.

The parade will start at 9:30 a.m., moving west on Main Street to Sussex Village Park  for childrens games, crafts, face painting and ice cream. Fireworks, sponsored by North Shore Bank, will begin at 9:20 p.m., at the park. The fireworks display is provided by the Bartolotta Group. Bike decorating kits will be available at North Shore Bank, W249 N6600 Highway 164, Sussex.

Blue Star Museum

The Keller History Museum, on the second floor of the Sussex Civic Center, N64 W23760 Main St., is offering free admission to active duty military members and their families.

Blue Star Museums is a collaboration of the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and museums across America. These museums offer free admission to the nation's active duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Keller Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

School supplies

Sussex Outreach Services (SOS) will begin Operation Backpack early, so parents can be financially prepared for what isn't supplied.

Operation Backpack offers school supplies to the children of families in need.

Donations of the following are needed: new backpacks, wide-ruled notebooks, wide-ruled loose leaf paper, folders, black, blue and red pens, fine and broad tipped markers, no. 2 pencils, rulers, protractors, highlighters, compasses, basic four-function calculators, water color paints, 24-count crayons, pencil cap and regular erasers, school glue, glue sticks child-size scissors, Post-it notes and permanent markers.

SOS is open for donations from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. A donation shed is at the side door for after hours donation (be aware of the weather when using the shed).
