The family of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who died May 18, couldn't be blamed for wanting to retreat far from the public eye on Father's Day.

Vicky Cornell, front center, emerges from her husband's May 26th funeral with children Christopher and Toni in Los Angeles.

However, the musician's 12-year-old daughter, Toni, surfaced the following day with a heartfelt letter to her dad, published to his official Facebook page.

"Let me start by saying how much I love you and how much you mean to me," she began. "You are my idol, someone I’ve always looked up to. You were always there for me. You pushed me forward every day, and you still do."

She expressed her gratitude for the all the times he took care of her when she was sick without worrying he would catch whatever she had.

"You didn’t care about getting sick," she recalled. "You would stay up all night to make sure my fever went down."

And she thanked him for the time he spent with the family when he came home from touring, noting, "No matter how tired you were, how many time zones you traveled, you were there for us."

Chris Cornell and wife Vicky escort daughter Toni, then about four years old, to the 2008 Kennedy Center Honors.

Unsurprisingly, she says he introduced her to the great music of his youth.

"I have so many memories with you," she told her father, "but one of my favorite ones was earlier this year when I was jetlagged and we watched Purple Rain. We were staying at the (Beverly Hills Hotel) and you came into my room when I was trying to find a movie to watch.

'How about Purple Rain?' you said. I always trusted your judgment. I put it on and immediately fell in love! We then got to your favorite song, The Beautiful Ones."

She noted that she too fell in love with the Prince song, too.

But it prompted a sad question: "Who’s going to introduce me to movies like Purple Rain and songs like The Beautiful Ones now? I’m hoping I will find some because you trained me so well."

She also showed a hint of her father's way with words, writing, "I know you are still here, and the warmth I feel beneath the cold, is you."
