CITY OF OCONOMOWOC - RadioShack in Oconomowoc will close its doors at the end of the month.
Signs outside of the business, 1087 Summit Ave., are advertising sales of up to 80 percent off merchandise throughout the store.
An employee who answered the phone Thursday said the store will likely be closed for good by May 29 or 30.
In early March, RadioShack's parent company, General Wireless Operations Inc., announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a news release. At that time, the company was planning to close 200 stores and was evaluating its options on the other 1,300.
For years, RadioShack has worked to diversify its business by partnering with Sprint to offer mobile phone service and adding FedEx pickup and dropoff locations. However, the company blames the poor performance of mobile sales and other market factors for leading to its bankruptcy filing, the March news release said.
RadioShack was founded in 1921 and, as of March, had more than 1,500 company-owned stores and 425 independent dealers nationwide.
