CITY OF OCONOMOWOC - Representatives of an ad sales company are contacting area businesses and falsely claiming to be working with the Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce, according to the chamber director.

Katie Miller, the director of the Oconomowoc chamber, said she has been receiving calls from local business owners who say they are being contacted by representatives of a company called Hometown Productions who claim to be working with the chamber. The callers say they are selling ads for a community guide publication.

However, the chamber is in no way affiliated with the company, Miller said.

“The Oconomowoc Chamber of Commerce exists to support our local businesses," Miller said. "It is frustrating when we hear of people misrepresenting our involvement in a project."

Online search results for the company bring up a website for a company called Hometown Productions that produces maps. The website has little detail about what the company does.

Miller said local business owners who ask for more details about the ad sales are hung up on.

The chamber produces only one community guide each year, and ad sales do not begin until fall, Miller said.

Miller encouraged business owners to subscribe to the chamber's weekly newsletter at oconomwoc.org to keep up-to-date on the organization's activities.
