Village of Chenequa -- The Lake Country Charity Connection is hosting its annual holiday event to support an area charity.
The 14th annual luncheon and boutique will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Chenequa Country Club on Highway 83. Attendees will be given a chance to shop the boutique, along with a 1 p.m. lunch and presentation.
Every year, the group picks a charity to support. This year's selection is Ann's Hope Foundation, a nonprofit that, according to its description, "raises awareness of the dangers of melanoma cancer through research, early detection and prevention efforts in the community." Local vendors selling merchandise at the event will give 10 percent of their proceeds to the foundation. The event has sponsors as well, with Ellenbecker Investment Group as the gold sponsor, and Northwestern Mutual and Phillips 66 among the silver sponsors. Harken, von Briesen and Roper and Creative Flair Salon are bronze sponsors.
The event started 14 years ago, when members of the group, all women, went out to lunch and bought each other Christmas ornaments and presents.
"We looked at each other and said, 'We don't need anything.' We decided the next year to maybe start giving it to local charities in the area," explained member Sue Hausmann.
