CITY OF PEWAUKEE - Four people safely escaped a fire early Friday, March 24, that caused substantial damage to the home, attached garage and a vehicle outside.

Firefighters and deputies from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department responded at 4:29 a.m. for a report of a fire at N28 W24376 Watertown Road.

The fire was reported by the homeowner, according to a news release from the sheriff's department. Two adults and two children were able to get out of the home; one was evaluated by emergency medical personnel for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The Pewaukee Fire Department requested an investigation be conducted by the sheriff''s department, which is ongoing.

Other fire departments that assisted were the village of Sussex, town of Delafield and city of Waukesha.
