CITY OF PEWAUKEE - Wednesday Night Classics, a weekly gathering of classic car enthusiasts, will have a new home this summer.
The group, run by Tom Hekkers, got approval from the city plan commission Thursday, April 20, to operate outside Point Burger Bar, W229 N1400 Westwood Drive. The group formerly met at Weissgerber's Gasthaus in Waukesha, until the restaurant closed in June 2016.
Brian Ward, owner of Point Burger Bar, said that the show will be exactly as it was when it was at the Gasthaus. Ward sees numerous benefits of the car show for his restaurant, which filed the application to host the permit.
"It's really bringing people to the area, bringing people out on Wednesdays in the summer," Ward said. "A different venue to see where people are coming to show their cars. A lot of times, the guys that bring their cars are going to stop and have dinner, but then also customers that may not know we are there that are coming for that. I think it's one of those things that people might be driving by and see a big car show and check it out."

Hekkers echoed similar sentiments about the location.
"The good news is Point Burger Bar is going to be as good, if not better, than the Gasthaus. Number 1, the location, the easy access, but also, more parking space," Hekkers said. "Somebody raised concerns about the parking overflow. That could be a win-win. We expect that our attendees will bring their families, and the kids will go to the laser tag place or they'll go to the trampoline place, or the Sky Zone. Certainly, they'll go inside the restaurant to eat or go to Veloce to use the cars. There's an exercise center over there somewhere. I think it's going to be a win-win for everybody, including the neighbors."
The car shows are slated for 4:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, May 24-Sept. 6, weather permitting. There is no cost to attend. Alcoholic beverages will be available, pending Point Burger Bar receiving final approval for its outdoor activity permit from the common council.
