"Winnebeergo" will be coming to the village of Pewaukee this fall, as host of the new Parktoberfest beer garden.
The beer garden will be open Thursdays through Saturdays, Aug. 31-Oct. 28 at Kiwanis Village Park.
Winnebeergo will be run by Jim and Mark Grabowski, both of Pewaukee, and a third partner. The Joint Pewaukee Park and Recreation Board chose the group July 12, pending the necessary liquor licenses and permits.
"One of the things the Joint Board liked about them was their involvement with the community," said Pewaukee Park and Recreation Department director Kelley Woldanski. "They're trying to work with the local restaurants and even Silly Willyz to make it a family-fun event. We also liked that they were local people, as well."
The group presented an outdoor camping theme for the beer garden, where beer would be served out of a Winnebago, according to Woldanski, along with other things to dress up the park to fit the outdoor camping theme.
"We are extremely excited about the opportunity," Jim Grabowski said. "We think it's something that's needed, that's something that's wanted in the changing downtown Pewaukee area. We think it's going to bring something that we haven't had before to the Pewaukee parks system. We think it's a great partnership with a lot of the local businesses to really highlight the great things that Pewaukee offers."
"(We) couldn't be more excited about it, and just hoping that the community likes it, supports it. That way, we can use it as a springboard to maybe a more permanent fixture in years to come."
The proposed times by the Park and Recreation Department would be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 2 to 8 p.m. Saturdays. Woldanski said the Grabowskis were looking to get extended hours for Saturdays, and were negotiating with them on those details.
Winnebeergo will have a contract for this season once the liquor licenses and necessary permits are approved, with the potential for an extension if the first season is successful.
