VILLAGE OF HARTLAND - Lake Country residents and parishioners on Aug. 6 got their first look at the recently completed first phase of the expansion of St. Charles Catholic Church and School.
The open house ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school, 313 Circle Drive.
New additions include include three new classrooms, a dedicated STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lab, a new concessions stand, new bathrooms and a revamped gym entrance and vestibule.
The 4,250-square-foot, two-story addition was built on the southwest side of the property, adjacent to Renson Road.
The changes are part of a three- to five-year $12.5 million expansion dubbed The Cornerstone Project. Long-term plans call for a new church to be built on the property, with the existing church to be reconfigured into meeting spaces and offices, according to planning documents.
The church said the space will be ready for students when school starts Aug. 28.
The school additions will increase space to accommodate 350 students, which church and school officials have said is necessary given St. Charles' substantial growth in recent years.
The church has said it plans to complete the expansion in three phases over the next three to five years.
