Get a taste of the delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory when this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale, “Willy Wonka” lights up the stage at The New Theatre on Main.

Featuring songs from the 1971 film and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, “Willy Wonka” is a  musical to delight everyone's sweet tooth.

The musical follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.

Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: The fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather.

The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory ... or suffer the consequences. The musical will take you on a fantasy ride into the land of pure imagination.

The theatre has once again been nominated in the “Best Theatre Group” category in its first year competing since 2013. The theatre did not compete in 2014 due to the build-out of its new venue in the Brown Street Market Place.

The contest took a break in 2015 and has been renamed for the 2016 competition as the Milwaukee A-List. The theatre is excited to once again take part in this contest.

“No theater had ever won this title two years in a row, and we were so thrilled to be the first in 2012 and 2013,” exclaimed Kimm Mann, managing director of Theatre on Main. “We would be honored to hold the title once again in 2016, and we are asking all of Oconomowoc to vote for NTOM by Nov. 20. We would love to bring the award home to our new venue, and the citizens of Oconomowoc and the surrounding communities have the power to make it happen. It would be such an honor.”

The theatre works to provide top-quality entertainment, new playwright opportunities, educational workshops and community events since 2005. It produces five Broadway musicals and plays annually, using theatrical talent from southeast Wisconsin. Visit and cast a vote.
