CITY OF OCONOMOWOC - City staff wants to remind residents properly to address sewer line maintenance on their property.
Sewer pipes, or laterals, leading from a building to a main sewer line can become obstructed by tree roots, misuse of the sewer or shifting soil, according to a news release from the city. Clearing the obstruction is the responsibility of the property owner.
City staff members are asking residents to notify the city whenever sewer lateral cleaning or repair is done so sewer mains can be checked and cleaned if necessary, the release said. Cleaning sewer laterals can cause backups in the system and the basements of adjoining properties.
Property owners are asked to call the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 262-569-2192 anytime lateral cleaning or maintenance is done. The office is open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
