Iran leader blasts Trump, Clinton, says candidates are 'bad' and 'worse'

The U.S. presidential election has a new critic: the president of Iran.

The choice between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is one between "bad or worse," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said during a rally Sunday in Iran.

The Iranian leader also called the U.S. political system immoral and cited the Clinton-Trump debates as an example.

“America claims it has more than 200 years of democracy, and they have had 50 presidential elections, but there is no morality in that country,” Rouhani said. “You saw the presidential debates, how they talk ... how they accuse and mock."

Both Clinton and Trump have criticized Iran for its aggressiveness in the Middle East, but have disagreed on the Iranian nuclear agreement pushed by the Obama administration.

Trump has vowed to tear up the agreement, saying it will actually help Iran acquire nuclear weapons; Clinton says the agreement is the best way to block the Iranians from getting the means to make nukes.

For his part, Rouhani declined to endorse either U.S. candidate.

“Should I prefer bad over worse or worse over bad?” the Iranian president said, mockingly.
