The WIAA sectional cross-country meets will take place Saturday in three divisions. The top two teams and five individuals not on qualifying teams will earn automatic state meet berths for the state meet Oct. 29 at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Arrowhead's two teams will compete in the Division 1 sectional at Mukwonago High School. The boys race will start at 9:30 a.m., and the girls race will follow at 10:15 a.m. Pewaukee will take part in the same meet.

The AHS boys team, fresh off winning the Classic 8 Conference championship,  is the solid favorite to win the sectional championship. The Warhawks are ranked No. 2 in the state. The battle for the second might be wide open, as none of those teams are state ranked.

In the girls division, it looks like a three-way battle for the two state spots. Arrowhead is ranked second in the state, and two other teams also are state ranked. Waukesha West is ranked third, and Pewaukee is ranked 10th.

Of that group, West won the Classic 8 Conference title last week, and Arrowhead was second. Pewaukee added a win in the Woodland Conference meet.

The two Kettle Moraine teams will compete in the Division 1 Beloit Memorial sectional. The boys race will start at 11 a.m., and the girls race will go at 11:45 a.m. Racing will take place at Leeson Park.

Kettle Moraine's girls team  figures to have a good shot at qualifying for state. No.1-ranked Sun Prairie is the favorite while the Lasers are expected to battle with Janesville Craig for the second spot. KM is ranked ninth in the state, and Craig is ranked 15th.

In Division 2, the St. John's Northwestern Military Academy boys  team will run in the Deerfield sectional at Cam Rock Park No. 3. The boys race will start at 11 a.m. and the girls race will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Lake Country Lutheran and University Lake School/Trinity will participate in the Division 3 sectional at UW-Parkside in Kenosha. The boys race will start at 12:15 p.m. and the girls race will begin at 1 p.m.

In the boys race, Living Word Lutheran is ranked seventh and the favorite to win the meet. Kenosha St. Joesph (ranked 15th) and LCL (ranked 16th) are expected to battle for the second spot.
