Kevin Durant congratulates Westbrook on MVP

Kevin Durant's move to the Golden State Warriors was controversial for many reasons, but it also understandably strained his relationship with Thunder guard Russell Westbrook.

For much of the season, Durant and Westbrook were not on speaking terms, but according to Kendrick Perkins of all people, that changed sometime in 2017.

When Westbrook was named the league's MVP on Monday night, Durant congratulated his former teammate the following morning. Durant wrote in a post on his official YouTube page:

Huge congrats to Russell Westbrook on MVP, that boy went out there and was a created player on 2k all year, (expletive) balled out. Gotta respect it!

He also added a congratulations to former teammate James Harden:

Shoutout my boy James Harden. For 5 years now he's taken his game to the next level, he will be an MVP one day, he's an MVP now, he's made so many people proud. I know this first hand, recognize what he has done for the game!

There was plenty of awkwardness and tension during the Thunder's games against the Warriors, but it was only a matter of time before cooler heads prevailed in this NBA beef.

Good on Durant for taking a step to publicly show good will to Westbrook.
