Tiger Woods' request to son Charlie: Don't touch these putters

NASSAU, Bahamas – For his return to competitive golf for the first time in 15 months, Tiger Woods put into his golf bag the Scotty Cameron putter he used to win 13 of his 14 major championships.

For years the club was at rest in the putting studio of his palatial estate in Jupiter, Fla., safe and sound until he headed to the Bahamas for Thursday’s start in the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club.

Especially from his 7-year-old son, Charlie.

“Charlie knows there are two putters he can't touch,” Woods said Tuesday in a press conference ahead of Thursday’s start of the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club, where he’ll play for the first time since the 2015 Wyndham Championship. “There's the black one I won with the trillium insert. … I won the Masters in ’97 with it … and this (the Scotty Cameron). They sit next to each other. Touch any other putter, do anything you want with any other putter. But these putters are off limits.

“‘These two only, Daddy?’” Charlie would often ask.

Yes, Woods told his son many times.

Charlie didn’t always listen.

“Of course, he's a kid,” Woods said with a smile when asked if he ever had to chastise Charlie for touching them. “He wants to always mess with me in some way.”
