Cubs (and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert) attend White House ceremony

Residents of Joe Maddon's hometown are not happy with him.

The ceremonial White House visits by championship teams run differently under President Trump and, apparently, include owners from teams in completely different sports.

Trump greeted several members of the defending World Series champ Chicago Cubs' organization before he called over Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert for photo with the The Commissioner's Trophy.

The press pool was on hand as the ceremony started in the Roosevelt Room. The latter part of the visit, held in the Oval Office, was documented by the White House's official Snapchat account.

"Where Dan Gilbert?" Trump asked. "He's right outside. Grab him. he's right outside. Dan Gilbert just came in. He's from basketball. He's looking for a good basketball player."

Somebody in the room said, "Tell him we are not from Cleveland."

Gilbert didn't appear in the photos or video posted from the Oval Office as the Cubs stood around Trump's desk in the Oval office. Trump can be seed holding a No. 45 Cubs jersey in the last photo uploaded of the visit.

Fewer players attended Wednesday's White House gathering than the contingent the Cubs had in the final days under President Obama, although Jon Lester --- who skipped the White House visit in January and after the Boston Red Sox team that won it all in 2013 --- did make the trip this time.
