Lamar Odom played in the NBA from 1999-2013.

Former NBA player Lamar Odom checked himself into a rehab facility near San Diego to undergo treatment for chemical dependence, according to multiple published reports.

US Weekly reported Monday night that Odom didn’t suffer a relapse but voluntarily admitted himself because “he wanted to get away and start fresh for the New Year.”

“He wants to stay clear and focused. With the divorce from Khloe (Kardashian) being finalized and the holidays coming up, he doesn’t want to slip up,” a person described as having knowledge of his admission told People. “He’s trying to take care of himself. He really wants to be better. His friends and family encouraged him to go in and he agreed and made the decision.”

Odom nearly died after he binged for three days on cocaine and sexual performance enhancement substances. He was found unresponsive in October 2015 and rushed to an area hospital.

Odom was placed into a medically induced coma and then required months of therapy to recover.

Odom, a 6-10 forward, last played in the NBA during the 2012-13 season with the Los Angeles Clippers. He also played with the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks.
