Kyle Lowry agrees to three-year deal with Raptors that could reach $100 million

Veteran point guard and three-time All-Star Kyle Lowry has decided to return to the Toronto Raptors, agreeing to a three-year, $100 million deal that includes incentives, a person familiar with the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports.

The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly until the deal is official.

Lowry, 31, announced his decision in a self-written article in The Players' Tribune.

"When I had to make my free-agency decision, there was a lot going through my head, a lot of roads my mind was traveling down," Lowry wrote. "Family, first and foremost, and what’s going to make them happy, and give them the best life. Basketball, of course, and where I’d like to play for these next several years. And then there was also the gut-check aspect — just what I was feeling in my heart.

"But for me, at the end of the day, this was an easy decision. And all of those roads … they all led me back to the same place: home."

Lowry has spent the past five seasons with the Raptors, leading them to the playoffs four consecutive times, including the conference finals in 2016. Toronto won a franchise-record 56 games in 2015-16 and 51 games last season, and Lowry has been integral to that success.

Lowry has had his best seasons with the Raptors, compiling career season after career season. In 2016-17, Lowry averaged a career-best 22.4 points, shot a career-best 41.2% on three-pointers and made a career-best 3.2 three-pointers per game. He also averaged seven assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals.

With his return, the Raptors should again be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
