Alabama leaps Ohio State for No. 1 spot in NCAA 1-128 Re-rank

Alabama's Eddie Jackson (4) returns a kick for a touchdown in the Crimson Tide's rout of Tennesee on Saturday in Knoxville.

That Ohio State falls from No. 1 in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Re-rank of the Football Bowl Subdivision is not a statement about the Buckeyes, who notched another impressive win against a very strong Wisconsin team (and on the road, no less).

No, it’s more about Alabama, which forcefully stated its case for being atop this week’s list by dismantling Tennessee, 49-10. The Crimson Tide are clearly the best team in college football.

Ohio State, on the other hand, is a clear No. 2. Could we be so lucky as to see these two teams meet to decide the national championship in January? One can dream.

That swap is probably the most drastic move in an otherwise mostly static top 10. Tennessee does fall out, tumbling to No. 20, replaced by No. 9 Nebraska. But Wisconsin only fell two spots to No. 10 after taking the Buckeyes to overtime.

New to the top 25: Arkansas, North Carolina, Colorado and Florida.

Out of the top 25: Miami (Fla.), Mississippi, Arizona State and Virginia Tech.
