Nine teams in the Power Five remain winless in conference games

It hasn't gone well for Arizona this season. The Wildcats are 2-5 overall, 0-4 in the Pac-12.

Nine schools from power five conferences are winless in league play. The presence of some teams on this list isn’t surprising, but for others their unwanted membership in this club is quite shocking.

At least two members are guaranteed to escape the club, as you’ll see below. But some might have to wait for basketball season. Here they are in alphabetical order, with their best remaining chances for a conference victory.

Arizona

The Wildcats did take Washington to overtime, but they haven’t been in anything resembling a winning position since. A Nov. 19 visit to Oregon State might be their best hope for a Pac-12 "W."

Boston College

The Eagles’ next shot might be their best one at home against Syracuse this weekend, though the Orange will be feeling good after picking up their first league win themselves against Virginia Tech. BC’s only other remaining ACC home game is against Louisville.

Duke

The Blue Devils’ ability to hang with Louisville last Friday night provided reason for optimism. After a week off, they have a good chance to crack the win column on Oct. 29 at Georgia Tech.

Iowa State

The Cyclones were close a few weeks ago when they had Baylor on the ropes in Ames. After a week off they get a shot at Kansas State at home on Oct. 29, but their best bet figures to be the Nov. 12 visit to ...

Kansas

A one-point loss to TCU might have been the Jayhawks’ best chance until Iowa State comes to Lawrence. But at least the Jayhawks got the opening day win against Rhode Island to avoid a second 0-12 campaign.

Michigan State

The Spartans certainly weren’t expected to be on this list. They’re highly unlikely to go zero for the Big Ten, but reaching bowl eligibility might now be a struggle. MSU is at Maryland this week, and if it doesn't win that one, Illinois and Rutgers are still on the schedule.

Missouri

The lone SEC member of the club, the Tigers will probably have to beat either Kentucky at home on Oct. 29 or South Carolina on the road a week later to avoid the O-fer.

Oregon

Things might get worse for the Ducks before they get better. With the exception of the "Civil War" finale at Oregon State, everybody else still on Oregon’s schedule is .500 or better. The Ducks need a win Friday night at California to retain any realistic bowl hopes.

Rutgers

Ah yes, Rutgers. Since last week’s date with Illinois has gone by the boards, it probably isn’t going to happen for the Scarlet Knights. But they’ll try again this week at Minnesota.
