WACO, Texas (AP) — Matt Rhule says he is honored to take over as Baylor's new football coach.

Matt Rhule is introduced as Baylor University's new football coach during a public event at the Ferrell Center.

Wearing a newly purchased green tie, Rhule was formally introduced on Wednesday. Rhule, the son of a minister and football coach, promised to "take care of this program that belongs to so many of you."

Baylor called Rhule's introduction a campus celebration. The event inside the school's basketball arena included cheerleaders, the school band playing the fight song repeatedly and baton twirlers.

Temple's Matt Rhule to be Baylor's new head coach

The 41-year-old Rhule goes to Baylor after back-to-back 10-win seasons at Temple, where he spent 10 of the past 11 seasons. On the same day he was introduced in Waco, Rhule ran full-page ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer thanking Temple University, Owls fans and the city of Philadelphia.

Jim Grobe, the acting head coach this season, was given a standing ovation.
