Clay Matthews says he'll miss getting to pad his stats against Jay Cutler

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews is upset that Jay Cutler has retired.

The former Chicago Bears quarterback will join Fox Sports as a commentator this season, and that is something that could hurt Matthews. Well, he says it might.

Matthews has 72½ sacks in his career. He has sacked Cutler 8½ times.

“Listen, I always enjoyed playing against Jay,” Matthews said on NFL Network's Rich Eisen Show. “Obviously, he rubbed some fans the wrong way. I know people get on him about his nonchalant attitude, but I always enjoyed playing against him. So, I’m glad I got a lot of sacks against him. I’ll miss that the most. But hopefully the next in line in Chicago will be as equally willing to help me pad my stats.”

Eisen asked about the half-sack against Cutler and with whom he shared it. Matthews said that it was Erik Walden, who is now with the Indianapolis Colts, and he's not happy about that.

“He stole half a sack. I even think, as petty as I am, I petitioned the league to get that fourth sack. They didn’t give it to me.”

Matthews said the league can be asked for a review to get the half-sack added back to his total. But he also admitted that when you try to steal a sack from your teammate, "you're probably not going to be boys the rest of the year, but I was willing to take that because it was the difference in a 3½-sack day and a four-sack day."
