Wild game in Madison area hits four overtimes

Rob Reischel has the crazy story of a four-overtime slugfest in Week 2 of the high-school season, with Middleton emerging victorious over Sun Prairie.

Middleton showed up at No. 5 in this week's Division 1 state coaches poll after the win, which pits two traditional Big Eight powerhouses against each other. Milwaukee-area teams frequently face off with teams from the Madison area in the playoffs, with some notable battles involving both schools in recent years. The Big Eight plays a conference-only schedule; Milwaukee area conferences will be reduced to, at best, one nonconference game next year under the new realignment, so these types of conference clashes could be commonplace in the first two weeks of the season going forward around here.
