Few teams have a streak of playoff appearances matching Franklin, which clinched a 16th straight appearance thanks to a win last week.

Among area programs, only Arrowhead (20 years) and Homestead (which just clinched 18 years) have longer current streaks making the WIAA playoffs. One of the men who served as architect for the Sabers playoff success, Chuck Hareng, was honored by the Sabers program. He passed away in late summer 2015, and Steven L. Tietz has the full story.

Tietz also takes a look at the recent installments of the Germantown-Whitefish Bay rivalry, which adds another layer this Friday in a big North Shore Conference game. It's a bit of a farewell tour for Germantown as it prepares to relocate to the Greater Metro in 2017.

In Travis Wilson's State of Play column, he takes a look at some state Offensive Player of the Year candidates, including local entrants from Brookfield Central, Oconomowoc and Waukesha North.
