Dominican playoff berth latest in line of crazy Metro Classic outcomes

There are always upsets in football, but across divisions, there arises a certain consistency that makes for largely predictable outcomes. But figuring out the Metro Classic Conference this year is anyone's guess.

Dominican defeated Martin Luther on Thursday night to net its first WIAA playoff berth (appearing in the postseason for the first time since the WISAA-WIAA merger in 2000), the latest in a long line of upsets in conference play. Martin Luther had itself secured a postseason berth thanks in large part to an upset over one of the preseason favorites, Kenosha St. Joseph, earlier this year.

Perhaps an even bigger head-scratcher is seeing Catholic Central finishing the year at 1-6. The Hilltoppers had never missed the WIAA postseason since the merger until this year, with two state titles and two runner-up finishes in Division 7. Thomas More, a team that had just one league victory in two seasons, was able to defeat the Hilltoppers, 27-12, for the Cavaliers' only league win heading into the final week of the season.

BCC's lone win came against Shoreland Lutheran, a team that has defeated playoff-bound Racine Lutheran, which could easily finish league play at 5-2 and is also responsible for the lone loss incurred by Racine St. Catherine's, the league champion.
