Bracket chatter: Level 2 rife with rematches

The area's football schedule features a number of games that will serve as rematches, both from the conference and nonconference season this year.

Oak Creek at Franklin: Quarterback Max Alba and receiver Ethan Wittenburg had huge games in the rain Sept. 16, and Franklin won the "Helmet Game," 33-21. Franklin won a playoff battle between the two teams in 2014, 38-34, after Oak Creek came into the game with a 9-1 record, having defeated the Sabers in the regular season, 20-12. Could the Knights turn the tables this time around on the 9-1 Southeast Conference champs from Franklin?

Germantown at Homestead. We already bid farewell to this ages-old rivalry with realignment on the horizon, but we didn't necessarily foresee a playoff matchup coming to pass. And yet, here we are in Level 2, where the Warhawks could certainly write a compelling final chapter if it finds a way to shock the Highlanders. HHS won the earlier meeting this year, 21-3.

Hartford at Brookfield Central. After a crazy overtime win over Whitefish Bay in Week 1, Brookfield Central truly demonstrated that it was for real with a 56-7 win over a Hartford team that came off an impressive win over Cedarburg one week earlier.

Menomonee Falls at Brookfield East. When the two schools met in the Greater Metro Conference season, East East won 20-0, allowing Falls barely 50 yards of offense and won in running back Sam Santiago-Lloyd's return from injury. But Falls has staged back to back stunners to keep its season alive against undefeated teams, so East won't be taking the Indians lightly.

Watertown at Waukesha West. Watertown has put up some lofty offensive numbers, particularly from quarterback Dylan Fagerland and receiver Ryan Hayden, but both were held in check in Week 1 when Waukesha West downed the Goslings, 28-7.

Wisconsin Lutheran at Catholic Memorial. These two teams didn't meet this year, but they have a colorful history, splitting four meetings in the past decade in the playoffs. That included a thrilling 2012 chapter won on a last-second field goal by Mitch Meindel en route to a CMH state title.
