The clash of Brookfield titans is perhaps the most fascinating battle on the Level 3 docket in our area, pitting two teams against each other with plenty of obvious history.

Andrew Gruman's story on the battle this week gives a detailed look at the past and what to expect at Central.

My Preps Alcove column this week looks back at 1994, when Matt Stover's 43-yard field goal set a state record that stands today and also gave a Arrowhead a controversial state championship. Some elements from the game may be familiar to observers of Classic 8 football in 2016.

An intriguing development in college football landed Wednesday when it was announced that the Big Ten would begin playing night games on Friday nights, starting in 2017. The slate of six games represents a departure from the current scheduling model -- and perhaps a threat to high-school football (though, presumably, Wisconsin wouldn't have more than one Friday night game in a season).

And finally, check out Travis Wilson's bi-weekly "State of Play" column, which looks at the state's Cinderellas -- whose clocks have mostly struck midnight.
